Once a year Christie’s auction house composes a symphony of the rare and the exquisite; the most voluptuous treasures at shocking sizes and provenance. Magnificent clearly defines the kind of incredible jewels that are brought together in New York City for this December 10th wonderland. Just in time for the holiday season and it looks like many people’s wishes will be coming true.
With diamonds as large as 103.66ct., and a Burmese sapphire weighing 120.84ct. these are jewels fit for a king.
In the jewelry industry certain designers have made a name for themselves by consistently providing showstopping gems and quality craftsmanship, and they are all represented here: Graff, Van Cleef & Arpels, Tiffany & Company, Bulgari, Harry Winston, Boucheron, Buccellati and more.
The recent Sotheby’s auction record breaker in Geneva for the remarkably rare Fancy Vivid blue 12.03ct. “Blue Moon” diamond, which was then quickly renamed ‘The Blue Moon of Josephine’ after selling to a private collector, topped the auction at $48.5 million. It is now the most expensive jewel ever sold at auction. It seems the rare jewel market is ripe. Given the overall record breaking history we have seen this year there is a lot of speculation of what new heights we will see this Magnificent Jewels collection soar to.
Adding to the interest are a couple of very intriguing estate collections. The most notable being that of Carroll Petrie, an avid jewel, art and haute couture collector. Known for her philanthropy and bright personality, she was grew up a Southern lady and later became an icon of international society. Her charm befriended the likes of the Duchess of Windsor, President Reagan, and Margaret Thatcher. It is a special and exciting occasion to have such an extensive single-owner collection available.
The live auction on the 10th will be an exciting event to be a part of as competition is sure to be fierce as the most influential VIP’s compete for some of the most luscious gems in the world.
