Looking to London’s latest venues for fine art, the Crane Court Gallery certainly stands out among them. The gallery itself offers a fascinating provenance, as it served as Sir Isaac Newton’s Royal Society and its museum, as well as the headquarters for Punch magazine. Today, it’s curator and director Alex Prior, known internationally as one of Brittain’s important gallerist, who has worked closely with clients based in the UK, Europe, Middle East and Asia on both public and private projects and commissions, is proud to present this stunning five story townhouse, now home to important works from both established and emerging artists.
This month Mr. Prior launched the Crane Court Gallery’s inaugural exhibition titled “A Scottish Symphony”. Works of blown glass, metal smithing, and painted canvas will showcase artists from Scotland. This exhibition shines a spotlight on the meaningful artwork coming from the northlands.
“For the first exhibition of 2025 at Crane Court Gallery, artists from Scotland and working in Scotland, will present work across a range of mediums connected not only by a shared heritage and embrace of place, but also by their commitment to their respective crafts.”
-Alex Prior, Crane Court Gallery Director
Some of the featured artists that you will find here are the glass artist Gillian Adair whose work captures a sense of fluidity and strong use of color; Caius Bearder who creates elegant, refined and modern silver works; Duke Christie hand carves sensuous forms into Scots Pine, Ash, and Wych Elm; and Huw Williams paints powerful animals in motion portraits that evoke emotion and movement in the space that they are in.
The vision of Crane Court Gallery is to make art a part of Londoners’ lives by making the gallery available for private events with catering available, as well as teaming up with local communities to display large sculptures of art in public spaces to enrich the lives and charm the minds of the everyday man, woman and child. Many important studies have shown how colorful art in public spaces can enhance the moods and demeanor of the residents, making for a more productive and enlivened community.
