Portuguese singer Bárbara Bandeira’s latest music video has caught international attention with its unique and eye-wateringly expensive dress featured throughout the film. The famous European singer created a music video that clearly had a vision of celebrating the Portuguese culture and, one facet it has had since perhaps even before colonial days, is a history of fine gold smithing. They have an eye for treasure and her gown showcases it perfectly.

She enlisted the jewelry design house Portugal Jewels to help bring the creative vision to life. The native jewelry brand is rooted in heritage craftsmanship, a perfect fit for the video. Portugal Jewels created this one-of-a-kind dress constructed entirely from jewelry. The dress that is at once a gown, sculpture and fine jewelry all at once, treats jewelry not as adornment, but as the garment itself.

Valued at approximately $105,000 (€90,000) and weighing 7 kilograms, the dress brings together traditional Portuguese jewelry forms including Viana Hearts, Queen Earrings, Galician Earrings, filigree work, and spiral motifs. Each element was handcrafted using long-established techniques and assembled at an uncommon scale.

“Jewelry has the capacity to exist at scale, as language rather than detail. This project shows how it can move beyond static display and into contemporary creation.”-Joana Bastos Gomes, founder of Portugal Jewels.
The creative concept came from Bárbara Bandeira herself and Raquel Guerreiro, while the design and concept came to life by André Rodarts. The dress appears in “Marcha”, her latest music video.

While the music video also showcases other striking fashion, a hat we’ve never seen before and outfits dripping in pearls, the gold gown stood out as the fashion center piece for its beauty and price tag.
