DESIGN: ROCHE BOBOIS CELEBRATES SIXTY YEARS

On the sixtieth anniversary of Roche Bobois, so long known for their iconic Mah Jong Sofa seating arrangement, the Parisienne design house looked to artist Joana Vasconcelos to add her unique, playful and expressive touch to their latest collection BOMBOM.

Creativity at the heart of the designs, it offers organic fluidity to the shapes in juxtaposition of the geometric pulse of the Mah Jong. Optimistic and celebratory color theory makes for eye catching statements in the home. It offers a massive opportunity for decorators to choose from for the palette of the space it will belong to.

Joana Vasconcelos notes in her talks about designing for Roche Bobois that it challenged her to take the happiness and intrigue from her sculptures that she is so known for and add to her process the goal of being comfortable. She deeply kept in mind the livability for the people and families that will welcome these creations in their home.

From the seating they expanded the collection to offer cushions and rugs that punctuate areas in unforgettable ways.

Roche Bobois’ Creative Director Nicolas Roche, really enjoyed working with the Portuguese artist because he feels that when you collaborate with someone outside of your industry they are not bound by the typical ideas. Instead when working with a sculptural artist such as Joana, or their famous Jean Paul Gaultier colab, artist from these fields see the world in a fresh perspective that he then helps translate into the Roche Bobois universe.

With endless ways to puzzle-piece the seating arrangement the impactful curves make for immediate conversation ice breakers and showcases and bold, vibrant spirit.
