Villa Portofino italy

Maybe you are among the privileged to have experienced the yachting life and are looking for some fresh territory to explore, or maybe you’re not an ocean going regular… yet. Either way, once you get a taste of what the Mediterranean has to offer, you are sure to be reaching for your compass and setting a course for destination: Luxury.

portofino-1

The scent of warm, tanned cinnamon brown skin mixed with the salty brine of sea air as you languidly rock with the rhythmic waves aboard a stark white yacht, earning your tan lines and avoiding the paparazzi behind large, black lenses makes for a perfect holiday picture. Let the crew attend to their duties of navigation, restocking of supplies, and preparing lunch ( you can hear the sizzle in the galley below as the scent of something with lime and mango, accompanied with the pop of a champagne cork makes its way above board), you have an important decision to make. Your next harbor. Will it be……

Portofino, which is Italian for ‘fine port’, is aptly named because this seaside village is all about the finer things in life. A favorite among the fashion elite, such as Giorgio Armani, Dolce and Gabbana; as well as being a hide out for writers like Guy de Maupassant and Truman Capote. The VIP visitors list goes on and on. The lure of this seaside village is everywhere you look, from the rich, melon colored villas that are four and five stories tall, artfully stacked and tucked around the verdant landscapes and cliffs. To the palm and cyprus trees, and fushia flowers that ensconce the terrain in their jewel tones around the beautiful harbor where the elegant boats have been welcomed for centuries.

Boats, both big and small, bob gently in the marina as their owners indulge in what the village has to offer. Being pampered in an exclusive spa with Turkish baths and a hot stone massage is a brilliant way to begin your day, followed up by shopping in the chic boutiques of Louis Vuitton, Hermes, and Loro Piano, and why not enjoy the sunset having a lemoncello tasting at a harbor-side cafe, watching the dolphins jump playfully as they arrive for their summer visit. La dolce vita at its best.
Note: If you happen to be exploring the Mediterranean in a super-yacht you will be asked to dock at the harbor of Santa Margherita, just two miles south. It is also an exclusive port town with seaside castles that you are sure to be happy to explore as well.
